Long Island Breast Augmentation

At our Long Island Plastic Surgery & Med Spa, breast augmentation is a very popular procedure. This type of breast plastic surgery provides enhanced volume for the breasts, along with increased projection. It can also address size asymmetry, restoring a more balanced appearance.

Breast Augmentation Overview

Long Island breast surgery begins with administration of anesthesia. Anesthesia ensures that the patient is comfortable throughout the surgical session and free of any pain or discomfort.

Next, incisions are created based on the surgical plan. These small incisions may be made in the armpit (transaxillary), around the areola (periareolar), or in the breast fold (inframammary).

Through these incisions, pockets are created in the chest tissues, either above or below the chest muscles. The implants are placed inside the pockets snugly, and then the incisions are closed with the help of surgical sutures.

Choosing the Right Breast Implants

Learning about breast implant myths in New York, Long Island, and Westchester, NY

When it comes to choosing the right breast implants for your boob job in Long Island, understanding your options is key. Breast implants come in a variety of different sizes, types, shapes, profiles, and textures. These characteristics can have an impact on your results, procedure cost, and the breast augmentation procedure itself.

Type: Saline implants, silicone implants, and gummy bear implants are available. Saline breast implants are filled with sterile saline, while silicone breast implants are filled with silicone gel. Silicone implants are inserted pre-filled and tend to feel more natural. Saline implants can be inserted empty and then filled.

Gummy bear breast implants are a newer type of form-stable silicone gel implant. Gummy bear breast augmentation is a very popular option, because when a rupture occurs, gummy bear implants maintain their shape and do not leak.

Size: Breast implants come in a number of sizes, typically anywhere from 120 cc to 850 cc. Unlike bras, they are not measured by cup size. The ideal implant size for you will depend on your aesthetic goals and your body measurements. It’s best to choose implants that are a good fit for your frame.

Profile: Implants are available in a range of profiles, from low to ultra-high. Lower-profile implants are wider and create a more natural look, whereas higher-profile implants have a narrower base and create a more dramatic look.

Shape: Implants are either round or anatomical (teardrop-shaped). Round breast implants are more common and improve upper-pole fullness. Anatomical breast implants improve lower-pole fullness and look very natural.

Texture: Patients can choose between smooth and textured implants. Smooth implants move more freely in the breast and have a more natural look. Textured breast implants have a thicker shell that adheres nicely to the surrounding tissues.

Good Candidates for Breast Augmentation

If you’re interested in enhancing the size and projection of your breasts, you may be an excellent candidate for breast enlargement in Long Island. People who are interested in correcting size asymmetries between the breasts are also good candidates for this procedure.

The best candidates for a breast augmentation are non-smokers who are in good overall health. Smokers and patients who are in poor health have an increased risk of experiencing complications during and after breast enhancement surgery. If you are a smoker, you will need to quit several weeks before the procedure date.

Pregnant or breastfeeding patients are not ideal candidates for breast augmentation. These patients will need to postpone their procedure.

The Consultation

When you meet with Dr. Newman to discuss breast augmentation in Long Island, you’ll first discuss your aesthetic goals. This will include your preferences in terms of size, projection, cleavage, and symmetry. Bringing photographs as a reference is recommended.

Next, Dr. Newman will perform a physical examination and take measurements. He will also ask questions about your medical history. He may ask about allergies, past procedures, current medications, and any underlying health conditions.

As part of your consultation for breast plastic surgery, breast implants will be discussed. Dr. Newman will go over your options in terms of type, size, profile, shape, and texture, and the two of you will customize your ideal implants. VECTRA® 3D imaging will be utilized to create a preview of your potential results based on the details of your procedure.

Dr. Newman will then describe the details of your breast augmentation procedure from start to finish. Please feel free to ask questions at any time. Finally, a date will be set for the surgery.

Breast Augmentation Recovery

The healing process after breast enhancement in Long Island begins with rest and downtime. A friend or family member should be with you for the first night in order to help out when needed.

After breast augmentation, you will experience a degree of swelling and bruising in the breasts. To help bring this down, apply ice packs as directed. Wearing a supportive surgical bra without underwire will also aid in this process. Bruising and swelling will ameliorate over the course of several weeks.

It will be necessary to carefully massage your breasts after around one to two weeks from the date of the breast augmentation surgery. This will help soften the tissues and encourage the implants to settle into their intended positions.

You will need to avoid physically taxing activities like heavy lifting, exercise, and sports for two to four weeks. This will help the breast augmentation incisions heal properly. You will also need to take time off from work for around five to seven days, or longer if your work is physically strenuous.

Patients must return to our office for personalized follow-up appointments as directed. During a follow-up appointment, Dr. Newman will remove sutures and check on the incisions to ensure proper healing. Any complications will be addressed at this time.

While changes in breast size will be evident immediately following the procedure, you won’t be able to see your full results until all swelling is gone. At this time, patients are typically quite happy with the appearance of their larger breasts.
